Consultations for live broadcasting of Parliament ongoing
20 Aug 2017
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Gladys Kokorwe says consultations pertaining to live broadcasting of Parliament proceedings are on-going with various stakeholders.
Ms Kokorwe, who was addressing a press briefing on Friday, said while it was her wish that Parliament proceedings be broadcast live during the next session, whether that happened or not would be dependent on whether the consultations would have been completed.
She said funds amounting to P3.7 million were available for the project; but experts in the field of broadcasting advised that the funds were not sufficient.
On other issues, Ms Kokorwe expressed contentment at the work of the different parliamentary committees.
She said compared to what happened in the past, committees were now more active, and that committee chairpersons showed a lot of commitment towards ensuring that their committees delivered on their mandate.
She said over 25 committee meetings held was a clear sign of progress.
On the just-ended session of Parliament, the Speaker said they had 21 bills presented, 78 motions tabled, 298 questions asked and 20 pieces of subsidiary legislation tabled from different ministries.
She noted that Parliament also looked at some supplementary estimates in the just-ended session. Ends
