Maun Senior Secondary School received 2 000 sanitary pads from Obert Fitness, a Gaborone based training centre.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony recently, the company’s director, Mr Obert Morgan, said they were honoured to contribute to the empowerment of the girl child in the country.
He said the company had signed a deal with the school to provide the girls with sanitary pads for a period of two years.
Mr Morgan said the girl child was vulnerable to accept materials or gifts from men with wrong intensions when she was desperate; hence it was important to empower her so that she could avoid such situations.
He called on stakeholders to assist in the empowerment of the girl-child as a way of building the nation.
Although his company was based in Gaborone, Mr Morgan said they understood that young girls in villages were also engaging in alcohol and transactional sex as a way of making ends meet.
“This is why we have settled to assist Maun Secondary school,” he said.
Mr Morgan further noted that it was important for girls to work hard on their studies despite the harsh conditions they were faced with.
He advised the girl-child to put more efforts in their studies in order to own big companies in future.
He further pledged to assist a female student who would come top of her class with an amount of P1 000; the prize money that will be awarded during the school’s up-coming prize giving ceremony.
As a way of inspiring the girls to never give up in life, Mr Morgan narrated a story where he used to walk a long distance to school but that did not hinder him from acquiring a degree in in physical education from the University of Botswana.
They too could focus and work hard to be better people, he said.
Meanwhile, school head, Ms Selebatso Modisaemang thanked Obert Fitness for assisting the school, as the girls would now be comfortable in their studies.ENDS
