15 Aug 2017

Chanoga will celebrate five years of existence under the auspices of its chief, Kgosi Oatleng Sethodi.

The celebrations will entail song, dance and poetry by the river side at Lekau’s farm (Lakka Valley) in Chanoga on August 26.

People from the catchment areas of Xhana and Samedupi are expected to join the celebrations.

In an interview, Kgosi Sethodi said his village has attained a lot of milestones in the past five years.

He said the Chanoga community had initially agreed on a human development strategy which saw about 120 young residents trained through the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and the empowerment of people living with disabilities as well as annual leadership training.

He noted that the village had also managed to facilitate cultural activities and to host national and international guests.

The achievement, he said, were possible through the unity of the kgosi, Village Development Committee (VDC) and the community.

Kgosi Sethodi said the Chanoga community has embrace the spirit of self-reliance.

He added that community members owned the goals and vision of the village, noting that it made it easier to source resources to help realise the goals.

Kgosi Sethodi emphasised that a lot had been achieved through the human development strategy, and that the village has moved to the infrastructure development strategy. He added that the strategy started with the building of 15 guest houses.

He said the village yearned for more infrastructural developments which could help in employment creation.

He noted that the village has decided to build a multi-purpose recreational facility with the P10 million awarded to each constituency by government.

Kgosi Sethodi said all developments were possible through proper negotiation skills, the right approach and a positive attitude.

He said all was achieved through a well-researched plan, adding that “failing to plan was planning to fail.”

Chanoga is situated about 40 kilometres south east side of Maun along the Maun-Francistown road.Ends
