Maun magistrate concerned about DPP in Maun

15 Aug 2017

Maun Chief Magistrate Taboka Mopipi has lashed out at Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) officials in Maun for failure to treat some cases with the seriousness they deserve.

Ms Mopipi raised the concern regarding a murder case which was registered with Maun Magistrate court on October 29 2015 yet the suspect has not been arraigned to this date.

She said murder was a serious case that had affected the victim’s family who expected closure and for justice to take its course.
Ms Mopipi said DPP had failed in many instances to deliver on such cases on a reasonable time. She said Maun Magistrate court had tried its best to be understanding for long and felt the matter should be taken up with the DPP supervisors in Gaborone.

She said she expected the DPP to have ensured the suspect was brought before the courts on the next mention date on October 22 although she said it was appalling that it had failed to do so in almost two years period.

For his part, the DPP official who was representing his colleague handling the case Khani Khani promised that a warrant of arrest would be issued for the suspect to appear before the court on the next mention date stated. Ends
