Maunatlala thanks God for rains good harvest
14 Aug 2017
Multitudes from churches of various denominations converged on Maunatlala kgotla Sunday to offer thanks to God for a good harvest.
Though not all the 38 churches showed up to praise and thank God for the harvest and good rains, Maunatlala councillor, Ms Salome Lesole testified that all the churches received communication about the event.
She said a huge number of villagers should have attended the resuscitated thanksgiving ceremony since it was abandoned many years ago.
The councillor said it was only apt for the villagers to thank God for a good harvest that resulted from good rains after they gathered at the same venue praying for rain.
“It doesn’t matter who rekindles the thanksgiving ceremony, but the practice itself,” said Ms Lesole.
She said despite some not having ploughed due to various factors, they still had to thank God for the rains and good harvest.
The councillor also encouraged parents to bring children to such activities because they too deserved blessings, and to learn their culture at a young age.
Some members of the community brought part of their harvest to the kgotla where they were handed to the chief who would determine the usage in future.
Multitudes who attended the event were told by of the importance of prayer.
Mr Boiketlo Thapelo of United Congregational Church of Southern Africa said people prayed to request after which they should also give thanks and praise the Lord.
The absentee villagers were castigated for not gracing a historical event, with speakers arguing that had there been low harvest as a result of poor rains, villagers could have filled the kgotla shelter to the brim.
