Kgosi calls for new poverty eradication packages

Kgosi Tshwaro Masisi of Mabesekwa has emphasised the need for people to explore other poverty eradication packages.
Kgosi Masisi said this in an interview, expressing concern that some people from the village and other neighbouring settlements still limited themselves to bakery, fashion design and backyard garden projects only.
He said though such projects were easy to operate, people should consider that such a move led to challenges of market saturation.
Kgosi Masisi highlighted that projects such as pop-corn making, laundry mart, food processing and several others could also close the gap in the village and brings in the desired outcomes.
“These other packages are ideal and can also bring in variety hence reducing chances of repetition of existing projects which brings along challenges of difficulties to penetrate the market,” he said.
Kgosi Masisi cited issues of lack of research and failure to seek relevant information and clarification from concerned officers as some factors that propelled people to limit themselves to the same projects.
He noted that people had a tendency to rely on hearsay which does not carry the truth about the packages.
Kgosi Masisi encouraged people to explore other poverty eradication packages as another way to bring in innovative services to the village.
He noted that “the projects are intended to give Batswana a sense of responsibility and an opportunity to be independent and have dignified livelihood.
He said in efforts to drive the projects to success, beneficiaries were given basic entrepreneur knowledge and taught the importance of saving and other business related aspects.
“It is disheartening that some people still perceive these projects as a waste of time, beneficiaries are given projects as per their capabilities and desire so that they enjoy what they are engaged in,” he said.
He said it was unfortunate that others fail to take responsibility for their projects and when such projects fail to prosper they turn to perceive them as waste of time. ENDS
