Kwerepe applauds association for giving back to community

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe has commended the Botswana Guides Association (BOGA) for supporting government efforts in improving education through donations and other various projects.

BOGA donated uniforms, books and office equipment worth over P40 000 to three primary schools in Maun.

Speaking during the donation at Letsholathebe Primary School on Thursday, Minister Kwerepe said each donated item added to the cumulated outpouring goodwill and deeds making a positive impact on community’s social well-being.

Mr Kwerepe, also MP for Ngami said of recent, the response of individuals and organisations to the presidential philanthropic appeal of extending a helping hand to the underprivileged had been overwhelming.

“This is a welcome trend that should continue to carry us forward as proud, compassionate nation givers as well as receivers, as we all know blessed is the hand that giveth,” he said.

He encouraged the receiving schools to use the donations well and maintain them as a symbol of friendship between the schools and BOGA.

BOGA is a non-profit making association founded in 1999 by tour guides to spearhead citizen empowerment into the tourism industry.

The association donated uniforms, photocopying machine, books and waste storage structures to Letsholathebe Primary School, Bonatla Primary School and Thamalakane Primary School.

In his welcome remarks, BOGA chairperson Mr Kenson Kgaga said the donations would bear fruit since it would improve the learning conditions and performance of those schools.

Mr Kgaga explained that the government continued to place a great emphasis on the development of human resources in the aim of preparing Botswana from a traditional agro-based economy to industrial economy.

He said the donation came at the right time when the government was reeling from the aftermath of the economic downturn adding that it was a true reflection of the good relationship between the schools and BOGA.

He further said the quest to meet immediate and future needs of the schools still remained a fundamental purpose which he said required Public Private Partnership approach. ENDS
