Bobirwa is now ready to make a mark in the sports entertainment industry as plans are underway to introduce horse racing competitions in the region.
Lazarus Mashola of Bobonong shared in an interview that horse race lovers in the Bobirwa area would now be able get a chance to watch the sport in their catchment area rather than to travel to far places such as Maun.
He said the prolonged benchmarking at the Maun horse racing competitions had inspired them to introduce the competitions in Bobirwa.
Mashola said the horse race competitions in Maun had enabled him to acquire knowledge and experience to make Bobirwa well known in the sport.
He noted that Babirwa had farmers with horses, but that what worried him was that they were not used for what they were meant for.
“Therefore, it is crucial for horse farmers to come together and find ways on how they can use those horses in a way that could benefit them,” he said.
Mashola, who owns a Tswana horse farm in Mmadinare, said he had competed at the Mmadinare horse race competitions recently where he managed to snatch position one.
He added that he had also competed in Letlhakane and Machaneng horse races where he also managed to win.
Mashola said his unique style of training horses was one important factor that made him to beat his competitors.
He dismissed speculations that for a horse to run fast or perform it had to be whipped time and again.
“Horse jockeys must ensure proper care and caution when riding horses as their skin is sensitive and piers easily,” he said.
Mashola explained that his horses were given supplementary fed called cool and perform in order for them to perform in competitions.
He encouraged Batswana to keep Tswana breeds as it was cheaper in terms of feeding and sales as compared to thorough breeds.
Mashola noted that one thorough breed could cost as much as P35 000 whilst one Tswana breed costs P5 000. ENDS
