Physical fitness important

Staying physically fit is not just good for health, but it is also a good way to train the brain.
It is important for everyone to stay active throughout their lives, says The Daily Shake Programme coordinator, Daniel Moeng.
He said most of the time people had busy schedules at work, school and home, hence less time in training.
The Daily Shake Programme is an outdoor fitness programme designed to help Batswana in their fitness journey and to give them knowledge about fitness and health and is one way to work out without setting foot in a gym.
Speaking in an Interview, Moeng said that he was motivated to be engaged in The Daily Shake Programme because he realised that fitness in Botswana was low and not many people understood what fitness was apart from going to the gym and learning the regular.
He explained that he noticed that people were interested in fitness, but they did not know how to get about it because even though it had been a month since the programme started, Batswana were coming forth for training.
Moeng further explained that their training routines were from Monday to Friday and their time schedule permits people to come any time since they start in the morning up to 7pm.
He said that their unique routines included boxercise, which were normal training routines boxers use to help condition and perfect their skills.
Moeng, who is an expert of five years in boxing, said the boxercise would be of benefit to Batswana because it taught them self-defence, emphasising that the work out did not involve any hitting at all.
He said their workouts also included body weight, which were of low intensity and engaged all muscle groups, abdominal exercises, which strictly helped with developing body toning, full body workout and cardio-vascular training.
Moeng stressed the importance of soccer in exercising, which he said was there in their exercising routines and it was conducted by a football coach and included all genders.
Dieting is also vital in the one’s health.
Thus Moeng said they worked with a nutritionist and dietician who helped in advising people on what to eat in order to keep healthy.
He also said that talking to his clients individually was important for him to understand different people he worked with.
Moeng has encouraged individuals to be patient in order to achieve what they want when it comes to fitness as the results would not show immediately. ENDS
