Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness Mr Dikgang Makgalemele has explained that Mmadikola village in the Boteti Sub-district does not qualify to have a clinic because its population is below 1000.

Speaking in Parliament on August 7, Mr Makgalemele said clinics are constructed by government in villages with populations of at least 1 000.

He said Mmadikola currently has a population of 830 people.

Therefore, he pointed that the health post in Mmadikola could not be upgraded to a clinic.

Specially Elected MP, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo had asked the assistant minister to explained when the health post in Mmadikola will be upgraded to a clinic.

She further asked when the Orapa hospital would be upgraded to accommodate the demand of all Boteti Sub -district.

Mr Makgalemele said the upgrading of Orapa hospital is the responsibility of Debswana.

“However, an existing understanding between Orapa hospital management and the ministry enables the hospital to see patients transferred from Letlhakane Primary Hospital,” he added.

He said the health and wellness ministry had a plan to upgrade Letlhakane Primary Hospital under Economic Stimulus Programme from 25 to 70 beds.

The assistant minister also said there was a plan to construct a clinic without maternity as well a 10 staff houses during the 2018/19 financial year in Makalamabedi.

He added that the ministry had procured sterilising equipment for Motopo clinic which would be delivered in November. ENDS
