Kweneng Land Board on August 7 donated items worth P5 000 to a 12-year-old boy living with disability in Lephepe.
Tiro Dibase, who is paralysed from waist down received a wheelchair worth P4 000, food hamper worth P1 500 and cash amounting to P300.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Kweneng Land Board chairperson, Mr Moemedi Babitseng said all the contributions were from the staff of the land board who wanted to better Dibase’s life.
“We saw it fit to donate the wheelchair to this child as we have known about his issue for some time.
The wheelchair will help with his mobility and also restore dignity in his life as he will be able to interact with children of his age” he said.
Furthermore, he said the wheelchair would make the child independent and empower himself.
He encouraged residents of Lephepe to support Dibase, where necessary stating that it should not be a once off occasion.
He said all should take it upon themselves to make a difference in other people’s lives and be passionate about giving back to them especially those who live with disability or who were less privileged.
Councillor Grace Lejage of Sojwe noted that the donation would liberate both the child and her mother.
“The child will not depend too much on the parent and the parent will also be able to carry on with her duties without worrying too much about the child’s mobility,” he said.
In an interview, the mother of the beneficiary, Ms Kgomotsego Ratshonono expressed gratitude to the Kweneng Land Board employees, noting that her prayers had been answered as she had been struggling with her child since he was six years old.
She said the land board employees had not only made Dibase’s life easier, her life too had been made easy and bearable.
“He was very dependent on me as I always had to carry and move him around. It was becoming unbearable as he is now growing up and gaining weight. Carrying him around was becoming difficult." ENDS
