Churches partners in development
08 Aug 2017
Peace Ever Church has been praised for its continuous contribution in human development across the country.
Boseja ward leadership in Maun said the church had taken the lead to play an active role in fighting poverty, thereby responding to the national leadership’s plea for people to come on board and help the disadvantaged communities.
The church, which held its annual conference in Maun, donated food hampers and some money to three elderly villagers at Boseja ward, who were struggling to make ends meet.
The trio were said to be in a waiting list to be assisted by the council.
The church also donated some trees to the ward leader, Kgosi Kegaisamang Ramokwena.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the donations to the beneficiaries, Kgosi Ramokwena thanked the congregation for their noble gesture, noting that it was pleasing to see churches joining hands with government to restore dignity, particularly to the disadvantaged members of the society.
He said the church members had demonstrated love, compassion and care to the beneficiaries.
The ward councillor, Mr Nico Folae emphasised that there was need for Batswana to help one another during challenging times.
He said the economic downturn had had a negative impacted on the government coffers, hence the need to come forth and augment government efforts.
He said government had a mammoth task to assist the needy, orphans and vulnerable groups, fight HIV/AIDS and poverty.
He thanked Peace Ever church for their support.
He said since the economic down turn, job opportunities had become limited and people, especially the youth, who had graduated from tertiary institutions were struggling to secure jobs and look after their families, hence high level of poverty within the communities.
Because of the high rate of unemployment and hunger, cllr Folae said some youths resorted to indulge in juvenile delinquencies and pleaded with churches to pray against such acts.
He also urged the church to continue praying against all the challenges faced by the country, noting that through prayers, ‘we will win the battle’. ENDS
