Scottish hospital excels in cardiac surgeries
03 Aug 2017
Scottish Livingstone Hospital famously known as a Centre of excellence for cardiac surgeries has once again lived up to its expectations by conducting successful open heart surgeries.
The 11th campaign which ran from 27 -30 July 2017 at the hospital was dubbed a success after eight patients went under the knife due to their different heart complications.
This comes after the hospital conducted surgeries on their cardiac patients back in 2013 when they launched the cardiac surgeries campaign in November. A total of 73 patients have since benefitted from the previous campaigns.
In an interview, the hospital’s public relations officer Ms Nthabiseng Dikole said a competent team of cardiac surgeons, cardiac anaesthetists, perfufionists, cardiologist, theatre and ICU nurses and support staff from their hospital and Princess Marina Hospital took part in the campaign.
She noted that patients who were operated were selected based on their condition warranting surgical intervention.
“Some patients were suffering from coronary artery disease (blocked heart vessels) while some had valvula heart disease,” said Ms Dikole.
She further revealed that in the team, 43 medical practitioners were Batswana while 10 were professionals from Mauritius.
He explained that the surgeries had gone as planned as no major challenges were experienced, adding that the patients were recovering and well looked after until they are discharged from the hospital. ENDS
