Conserve the environment
02 Aug 2017
Government has been commended for conservation of flora and fauna.
Morupule A power plant site director, Mr HimCham Kim said government was now enjoying the benefits of developments achieved through tourism funds.
Speaking during Palapye Administration Authority (PAA) Clean Up the World Commemoration Day at Topisi recently, Mr HimCham also DOOSAN project manager said Batswana should be proud of their government which saw it fit to have Waste Management Act in place.
He said the Act allowed for proper waste management which in turn prevented harm to human, animals and plant life as well as minimised pollution of the environment to conserve natural resources from degradation.
Mr HimCham said government went further to appoint law enforcement officers to ensure adherence to the act.
He said though government had made strides in educating the community on waste management, the country still experienced outbreak of diseases like Diarrhoea, Malaria and measles cases on livestock which was on the increase.
He said care for the environment required all on board because government’s efforts would bear no fruit if communities took backstage.
The setting up of more industrial and commercial companies in Palapye he said would consequently result in multiplied waste generation.
Waste generation, he said was also exacerbated by increase in population and transportation of goods between countries.
Mr HimCham found the theme, Our Place our Planet Our Responsibility relevant, noting that the sub-district was doing its best with limited resources to support communities in caring for the environment.
Mr HimCham said taking good care of the environment was in fulfillment of vision 2036 pillar of A Sustainable Environment, which could result in optimal use of natural resources for the upliftment of livelihoods. ENDS
