Over 200 govt. vehicles in Chobe have tracking system
02 Aug 2017
Mokaila says 211 vehicles in the Chobe District have been installed with a tracking maintenance and management system out of a fleet of 391 in the district.
Minister Mokaila said 148 vehicles would be installed with the system while 32 had been boarded. He said the system was currently maintained at a cost of over P400 000 inclusive of VAT per month, and that it covered the entire ministries and departments around the country.
The minister noted that departments were generally reluctant to comply with the system installation and that vehicles got fitted as and when they came into CTO workshops for repairs and for fueling.
“We believe that this is partly due to the fact that some of the departments do not have internal capacity to manage the system once installed as well as the fact that fitment was only possible on vehicles with running engines. In other words, if an engine is temporarily broken or not running the system cannot be fitted,” said Mr Mokaila.
Chobe MP, Mr Machana Shamukuni had asked the minister to state how the district’s fleet complement and the number of vehicles installed with the system. He also wanted to know about the system maintenance and associated costs as well as departmental compliance to the system installation. ENDS
