Abraham Ngakaemang of Mbasuva horse raising has hailed the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development for supporting their efforts.

In an interview after the Charleshill July handicap on Saturday, Ngakaemang appreciated the P100 000 support from the ministry, saying it was an empowerment to the youth as they were the ones that were horse owners and coordinating the horse race.

He said the youth were making a living from horse racing and created employment for other youth like jockeys. “To run and look after horses is a talent on its own,” he added.

Ngakaemang said more sponsors should consider sponsoring the Charleshill horse race, as it had the potential to change the lives of many and transform the village.

He was impressed by performance of the horses and was hopeful that international independence handicap race would be tougher. He stated that the July handicap race was in preparation for the independence handicap race.

Vice chairperson Ghanzi council, Shadrack Modisane said they intended to channel P2 million from the constituency community funds to establish and develop the horse race facility in Charleshill.

Modisane urged horse owners to vaccinate their horses against African horse sickness so that they could compete internaionally. He called for the establishment of a horse race association.

One of the horse owners, Joseph Kananguizi said the Charleshill horse race was a good gesture, but called for the appropriate facility to host the event. Frekki Villander’s horse, De la Vere won  the thorough breed 2 400 metres main race, pocketing P14 000.

Cornelius Couw said he trained well and the win brought happiness to the whole stable. ENDS
