Bible translation progressing well

31 Jul 2017

Botswana Bible Society secretary general, Reverend Gabriel Tsuaneng says the society has made progress in its effort to  translate the Bible into other languages such as Sekalaka, Sekgalagadi, Seyei as well as the two dialects of Sesarwa, Naro and Khwii.

Speaking after the society’s joint sponsored walk with various church denominations in Kanye on Saturday, he said the church has come to the realisation that people learn better and faster when taught in their mother tongue.

“We have made great strides in this regard and we commend churches across the country for their continued support towards this mammoth but equally important undertaking,” he said adding that initiatives such as the sponsored walk has assisted to raise funds for the project.

Reverend Tsuaneng, who is also the vice president of Botswana Council of Churches, said the word of God remains the only solution to numerous problems facing the nation.

He said disregard for the word of God would only plunge the nation into deeper abyss of morale decay and hopelessness.

Reverend Boss Sebeelo of Lutheran Church was happy that the sponsored walk took place at a time when the society was about to observe Bible month in August, noting that it formed part of the society’s calendar of events every year.

“Today’s activity reminds the entire brethren about the essence of the Bible in our Christian walk,” he said.

Speaking earlier, senior chief representative, Kgosi Kwelagobe Mookodi complained about lack of support by political representatives. He said he hoped it would be corrected in future.

He added that the Bible remained a crucial instrument in building a solid moral foundation in any given society.

“We all need God in our lives and leaders especially need divine guidance and inspiration from the word of God. The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom,” he said quoting from the Bible.

He made a call to the body of Christ to remain united and shun any attempt to polarise it. ENDS
