Contractor to debush Mopipi Kumaga turnoff

26 Jul 2017

The contractor Snap Box Technologies (Pty) Ltd who were engaged to bush clear and de-stump along the Mopipi turnoff-Kumaga Section C1, during 2016/17 financial year, have not paid some casual workers.

This was said by Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi, when responding to a question in Parliament from Specially Elected MP, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, on behalf of Minister of Transport and Communication, Mr Kitso Mokaila.

The said contractor, Mr Molefhi said was paid for the work done as per the contract, ‘however, it is apparent that the contractor failed to pay his employees (casual workers).

The Ministry of Transport and Communications, he said was unable to intervene in the matter on behalf of the workers because it had contractual obligation, adding that the contractor had obligation to workers.

Additionally, the minister said the ministry had advised the affected casual workers to report their mater to the Labour office in Letlhakane, ‘since the same matter is a labour related issue.’

Ms Kenewendo wanted to know if the minister was aware of some contractors that had completed road projects in Boteti and left without paying their casual workers.

She also wanted to know what action had been taken against them. ENDS
