No show by officers worries DC
26 Jul 2017
Tutume Sub-district deputy district commissioner, Mr Michael Chilimba has raised concern about heads of departments’ failure to attend the District Development Committee (DDC) and District Extension Team (DET) meetings as it compromises productivity and service delivery.
Addressing the officers in Tutume on July 25, Mr Chilimba said senior officials were mandated to attend, cooperate and participate in these committee meetings.
He reminded them that their role was to carry out government’s mandate and ensure that clients were satisfied with their services.
He emphasised the importance of teamwork, saying it was good for progress.
Mr Chilimba urged officers to attend district activities and to be proactive, warning them that excuses of shortage of transport was not acceptable and they must share resources as government departments.
Furthermore, he noted that without effective leadership, most of the plans to improve service delivery would be difficult to achieve in the sub-district.
In other developments, Mr Chilimba said Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) projects in the sub-district were progressing well except the construction of Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) offices, which was still lagging behind.
For her part, principal programmes officer, Ms Wazha Fani said the scheduled meetings often collide with their department activities, hence the non-attendance.
Mr Chilimba reminded them to always delegate their junior officers to attend the meetings or risk being reported to their department directors and permanent secretaries for further action. ENDS
