26 Jul 2017

The Masire family has thanked President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and Batswana for the support and messages of goodwill during the mourning of Botswana’s second president, Sir Ketumile Masire.

Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony at Livingstone Kolobeng College (LKC) on July 24, Sir Ketumile’s daughter, Ms Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba thanked Sir Ketumile’s friends and family for showering the family with words of support and comfort.

She also thanked  the global community for their support and their response throughout Rre’s life right through to the very end.

She said the Masire family and the nation were blessed to have Sir Ketumile in good health for a long time. She also noted that Sir Ketumile had dedicated his life to public service.

“And today, we meet because this is where these two points come together. We knew that he was our father, but we also knew that he was your father. And we felt that as we mark his birthday, we must do that with the people that he held very special and very close to his heart. You the young people of Botswana, you the future of this country,” she added.

In his welcome remarks, LKC board chairperson and deputy permanent secretary in the Office of the President, Dr Jeff Ramsay commended the school management and students for having taken the lead in a ceremony to celebrate Sir Ketumile.

Sir Ketumile, Dr Ramsay said, was an educator by passion and profession, adding his passion for teaching was seen throughout his life.

On behalf of all students in Botswana, LKC students handed over posters with messages they wrote to honour Sir Ketumile.

In some of their messages, LKC students said Sir Ketumile was a blessing to the nation, and that they were proud of his accomplishments. ENDS
