Francistown clinics experience rise in STIs
25 Jul 2017
Francistown District Health Management Team (DHMT) health education officer, Mr Sylvester Pogiso says most densely populated areas experience high statistics of sexually transmitted infections.
Speaking at a District AIDS Multi Sectoral Committee meeting recently, he said local clinics such as Masego, Itekeng, Botswelelo and Botshelo have registered an increase of five per cent infections from the last quarter.
With regards to the increase in infections, he said condom distributions were going well, but that they were still experiencing a low uptake of female condoms regardless of their efforts to reach out to communities.
He said from their research, it revealed that even though people collected the condoms from different points, usage was low.
Mr Pogiso said reasons cited for the low uptake was that most people prefered flavoured condoms which the government was considering providing in the near future. ENDS
