Khwai situation under control
24 Jul 2017
Ministry of Environment, Natural Resource Conservation and Tourism as well as Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) have noted with great concern reports of congestion and feedback on tourism activities that are ongoing in NG 19, also known as Khwai.
A press release from the ministry states that NG 19 is currently under the management of Tawana Land Board.
It says while NG 19 does not fall within the Tourism Land Bank as yet, the ministry has committed to developing a management plan for it, which will determine carrying capacities for both accommodation facilities and vehicles within this wildlife management area.
It further states that once completed, the management plan will serve as a guide on regulations and monitoring of activities, facilities and developments within NG 19.
The release further advises tourists and the public to verify the availability of the tourism facilities in the area before booking as some of them may have invalid licenses.
It states that they appreciate all the feedback that they have received through various channels, and assure all stakeholders that concerns will be attended to as a matter of urgency.
“For clarity regarding validity of licenses, please contact Department of Tourism, Licensing and Inspection Office on (+267) 361 0606\361 0613 or email: Dotlicensingandinspection@gov.bw,” states the release. ENDS
