The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security says though the workplace is characterised by a myriad of challenges, there was a need for workers to unite against this in order to prevail.

Giving a keynote address during the ministry’s 2016/17 excellence awards at GICC on Wednesday, Mr Shaw Kgathi said if workers could remain united and form formidable work teams, they could easily achieve their mandate by excelling in whatever they undertake.

He however admitted that at times employees are subjected to daily pressure from clients but have to find ways and mechanism with which they could ward off this. Nevertheless he said as the ministry they have committed themselves to being the best performing ministry by offering best service to their clients even under difficult conditions.

He praised past leaders for their vision on directing the country’s economic fortunes, noting that this  trend should be maintained. 

He further praised public service reforms which have taken place in the public service over the years as they have enabled workers to perform better. Minister Kgathi in the meantime congratulated those who received the awards.

In her welcome remarks, permanent secretary in the ministry Ms Segakweng Tsiane said the ministry recognise and award officers who fulfilled its values and mission and therefore it was important to celebrate this achievement.

She noted it was important that officers serve their clients with humility and an assuring smile, some of the attributes which should be upheld. Ms Tsiane likewise said employees should propel the ministry forward and become the strongest link in the public service.   

In the meantime she said the awardees were carefully chosen by a panel of co-workers and therefore believed there was neutrality to avoid compromising their the standards. 

At least 36 officers were awarded different awards and chief among them was Mr Nchunga Nchunga who got Minister’s Award. ENDs
