Tsogwane to represent Botswana at HLFP

13 Jul 2017

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane will make a presentation on the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development at a High Level Political Forum (HLFP) in New York from July 15 to 17.

A press release from the ministry says the forum is a United Nations created inter-governmental process that was established in 2013 to spearhead the implementation of Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

The forum will be held under the theme: Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world.

The release further notes that the forum convenes every four years at the level of heads of state and government under the auspices of the General Assembly, and every year under the auspices of the economic and social council.

“As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages member states to conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven,” it says.

The statement further reveals that Botswana is among the 44 countries to be reviewed during the 2017 session of the forum. ENDs
