Kgosi Moepasediba Maiketso, 70, has died on July 8 at Princess Marina Hospital after a long illness.
Kgosi Maiketso was the second kgosi of the village after taking over from his father in 1989 after his death. His father was appointed Kgosi of Lorolwane by Kgosi Seepapitso IV.
The late Kgosi Maiketso was a passionate, self-driven, loving and caring person who created a peaceful environment for his people.
In an interview with his younger brother, Mr Modiri Maiketso said Kgosi Maiketso was fond of his people and was determined to better their lives by educating and informing them at all times.
He said his late brother valued education and influenced many to get education as a contribution towards an educated nation.
Mr Maiketso said his late brother was never afraid to speak his mind.
“He loved teaching his people about HIV/AIDS as he felt some turned a blind eye when it came to it, and was concerned about the spreading of the disease,” he said, adding that Kgosi Maiketso would get tested and show his people his results to enlighten them and teach them the importance of testing for the disease.
Mr Maiketso also noted that his brother was always up to date on matters of their surroundings and the country. He added that he was interested in youth programmes, and encouraged the youth to utilise youth empowerment schemes.
He said Kgosi Maiketso also influenced the youth into owning land and creating space for farming of all types.
He added that his greatest achievement was the JN16 borehole that was started to help people in production and to water their livestock.
Kgosi Maiketso leaves behind his wife, Ms Elsie Maiketso and younger siblings, three men and six women.
He will be buried at Lerolwane tomorrow. ENDs
