Sport builds discipline

Sport builds a competitive spirit in players and teaches them to make a contribution irrespective of whether participation results in victory or defeat.

The general manager of Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines, Bakani Motlhabani said this during the Debswana inter-mine games prize giving ceremony in Orapa on Sunday.

Motlhabani stated that playing sport teached one to accept both success and failure in a positive spirit.

He noted that success witnessed was as a result of good investment of spirit, time and talent.

He said the games were held to promote employee interaction and wellness through enhancement of sporting culture.

Motlhabani said it was also intended to encourage employee relationships among Debswana employees, families and business partners through participation in physical and mental exercises.

He said the aim was to improve employee engagement, adding that “a healthy employee is a productive employee.”

The general manager also urged players to prepare on time for the 2018 games so that they elevate the standard of games to a new level.

The games, he said, were revealing and challenging in all respects, stating that all teams displayed the spirit of sporting excellence regardless of results.

Competition was tight between Orapa and Jwaneng while Debswana Corporate Centre (DCC) trailed behind. The final score was a draw for Jwaneng and Orapa with 14 points while DCC got one point.

Orapa scooped position one on aerobics, bowling, golf, chess, quadbiking, lawn tennis, darts, softball women, badminton and volleyball men while Jwaneng took position one in athletics, basketball, cycling, motorsport, snooker, soccer master, softball men, volleyball women and Jwaneng and DCC won netball competitions.
