10 Jul 2017

North West District Council has been selected as one of the pilot districts to implement Local Economic Development (LED).

When updating councillors about Local Economic Development (LED) policy framework, the council chairperson, Mr Duncan Enga indicated that the LED technical team for the district was trained from June 21-23 20at Palapye on how to undertake the Local Economy Analysis (LEAs).

He believed that the training would assist the district to come up with a District Local Economy strategy. Furthermore, he revealed that the induction for District Economic Development Committee (DEDC) was done in November 2016.

On other issues, he informed the civic leaders that the district had come up with two brick moulding projects funded under the Poverty Alleviation and Housing Scheme in an effort to eradicate poverty.

The two projects are operated in Maun and Gumare in the Okavango Sub - district. The Maun project which is situated at Matshwane Industrial has employed 23.

Mr Enga explained that even though the project had been provided with a truck in 2016 to ease the delivery of bricks, it was faced with difficulties of acquiring sand.

The other project at Gumare, he said was not yet operational as it is currently at mobilisation stage. ENDS
