Constituency tournaments expose talent
10 Jul 2017
Coordinator in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Culture and Sports Development (MYSC) for Maun East, Timothy Samuel says constituency games were a platform for players to showcase and market their talent.
Speaking in an interview during the just ended constituency sport tournament national finals in Maun recently, Samuel said this year’s tournament had players with high levels of competitiveness across all stages of the tournament.
He noted that the tournament had already produced good players in the likes of Gosalamang Maitiso, who is now plying his trade at Green Lovers.
He added that players like Moyenga Chikova, now playing for Miscellaneous, also played in the tournament. Samuel also mentioned Thato Monowe, now with Sankoyo Bush Bucks as well as Olebogeng Koriwa, who is playing for Delta Queens Netball Club from Maun and a Botswana national netball team player.
He said even though his region covered a wide area which included Nata-Gweta, Chobe, Ngami, Maun East, Maun West, Okavango and Boteti, they made efforts to see every potential player despite the distance challenge.
For his part, the region coordinator, Balebi Setolo said he had nothing to complain about except for a few minor things.
He gave credit to departments such as Botswana Police Service and Botswana Defense Force (BDF) for providing security, Ministry of Health for heath related matters, Medical Rescue for health matters as well as Botswana Meat Commission (Maun abattoir) for providing meat, adding that it increased the level of professionalism for the tournament.
He however decried practices of some schools, saying the leadership in some schools was not collaborative and reluctant to offer accommodation in classrooms to teams.
He further highlighted that teams travelled long distances to reach the games, and that rest was of paramount importance before the games.
Also speaking in an interview during the games, former Zebras player and Township Rollers captain, motivational speaker and branch manager of Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) in Maun, Lolo Mosojane said all his achievements relied on discipline, dedication and focus. ENDS
