A 28-year-old man has been charged for murdering another man at Seolwane ward.
In an interview, District No 2 criminal investigation officer, Superintendent John Letsholo said a fight began between the two man, who hail from Chichana ward, over a spilled beer while on drinking spree at Seolwane ward.
He said a misunderstanding began after the victim spilled beer belonging to the suspect, Motshegetse Bantome and that the victim tried to stab the suspect, but was overpowered and stabbed on the left arm.
“We always advice Batswana to seek guidance and assistance from elders, or to visit the police station when they have misunderstandings.
“If this issue could have been brought to our attention before the ordeal, this could have been a minor issue,” he said.
Superintendent Letsholo said the suspect, who is in police custody, would appear before court while the deceased, whose names have been withheld, was at the Sekgoma mortuary.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating a case of unlawful wounding at Sajwe cattlepost in which a man aged around 20’s was found with multiple injuries on the chest and backside.
Superintendent Letsholo said they were waiting for the man to recover, as he was unable to speak and that he has been admitted at Palapye Primary Hospital.
He said they suspect that the victim was attending a stokvel on the night when the incident occurred.
Superintendent Letsholo added that they were disturbed by recent incidents of stokvel parties where people sell alcohol in order to make money.
“It is illegal to do so and when we find such people selling outside permitted hours, we charge them,” he said.
Still in Palapye, Extension 4 police have arrested a 47-year-old man who is alleged to have raped a 17-yea- old boy.
“The man is still in custody as investigations are ongoing, and is scheduled to appear before court soon,” he said. ENDS
