Outbreak of Avian Influenza

The public is informed that an outbreak of Avian Influenza has been reported in South Africa.
A press release from the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security says the outbreak has resulted in the banning with immediate effect of importation of domesticated and wild birds, their products (meat, eggs and feathers), poultry feed and litter (bedding material) from South Africa.
All import permits issued in respect of the listed items are recalled with immediate effect and all documents should be returned to the nearest veterinary office.
The public is requested to be vigilant and to report any deaths of domestic poultry and wild birds to the nearest veterinary office.
