City unveils celebration logo

City of Francistown mayor, Councillor Sylvia Muzila has unveiled a logo for the city’s 120 years of existence.
Speaking at the unveiling and launch of the logo on Wednesday, Ms Muzila said Francistown has over the years grown from a township to a city. She said in terms of developments the city boasts the biggest stadium and the first interchange in the country.
She implored the residents to use the logo but avoid misrepresenting what the designer intended to put across.
The designer of the logo who is a standard five pupil at Our Lady of the Desert primary school, Lefika Moganiwa explained that the cogwheel on the logo represents mining while the gold ball within the wheel signifies that the stadium will unite multiracial people through sports.
He said the drop of water denotes that the city has abundance water that needs to taken care of. Lefika said the people in a celebratory mood indicate the residents of the city hailing the growth of the city while the blue, black and blue waves show that people of different races are living in harmony in Francistown.
Earlier the city clerk, Mr Mompati Seleka said a competition was run for all schools from primary to secondary levels in Francistown to come up with the city’s logo.
He said the logo was to capture the national principles, national development goals as well as incorporate the city’s vision of making it a vibrant one.
The tagline of the logo is “All things precious”. Francistown will celebrate 120th anniversary this year. BOPA
