18 Jun 2017

Mourners, among them members of the media, converged on Lecheng Saturday to bid farewell to their fellow scribe and friend, Ms Kgomotso Mmoloki.

Ms Mmoloki is reported to have not been well for some time and died on June 12 at Sekgoma Memorial Hospital.

Ms Mmoloki had just been transferred to Serowe when she met her death.

Radio Botswana station manager, Ms Keitirele Mathapi said she was one of many who were struggling to come to terms with Ms Mmoloki’s death, having met her the day before she passed on.

However, Ms Mathapi said she took comfort in Ms Mmoloki’s work and would forever cherish the memories she shared with her.

Ms Mmoloki’s sense of responsibility, intelligence and hard work drew her close to many people and was able to get along well with others.

Ms Mathape described Ms Mmoloki as an ace reporter who took pride in her job and did it to the best of her ability.

She said Ms Mmoloki put all her energy in her work and would go to the extent of re-reading her edited stories to check mistakes.

Whenever names of her sources were misspelt or pronounced incorrectly in news bulletins, Ms Mmoloki would demand that the story be included in the next bulletin with corrections made.

Ms Mmoloki was a loving and compassionate individual who touched many lives and was involved in a number of charity projects where her office raised funds and donated educational material to children living with disability at Kachikau Primary School.

She spearheaded the construction of a house for Ms Oaitse Nkgaswe, a Lecheng woman living with disability.

Lecheng/Malaka ward councillor, Mr Charles Mabjweng said Ms Mmoloki’s death was a serious blow to Lecheng for they looked up to her to contribute towards developing the village.

He said Ms Mmoloki and Ms Kefilwe Mokgaotsane, a reporter who was working in Selibe Phikwe together with Ms Kgomotso, made a positive impact in Ms Nkgaswe’s life, something that would remain in the hearts of the community.

Ms Mmokoloi joined the Department of Broadcasting Services in 2006 as an assistant broadcasting officer, and was transferred to Selibe Phikwe on promotion in 2010.

She was promoted to broadcasting officer I in 2012, and was transferred to Kasane the same year. BOPA
