Makgaba to become settlement

14 Jun 2017

A recommendation has been made to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development that Makgaba be recognised as a settlement.

That was said by acting District Commissioner, Mr Charles Modise when presenting a report during the Central District Full Council meeting recently.

Mr Modise said a survey conducted from the household had shown that Makgaba had a population of 581 people who originated from Makgaba, but stayed elsewhere due to schooling, employment or in pursuit of services.

He said according to the survey, it was possible that these people could relocate back to Makgaba if the village could be declared a recognised settlement because services would be provided.

“If Makgaba is declared a settlement, it will be provided with basic infrastructure and services by the council,” he said.

He pointed out that as per the Remote Area Development Programme, headman of records will be appointed by the minister and all public facilities, such as the mobile health stop and Kgotla on the western side would have to be relocated to the eastern side. ENDS
