MAA to pilot early childhood programme

14 Jun 2017

The Maun Administration Authority (MAA) will pilot the Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme.

The authorities chairperson, Mr Mmoedi Modiegi said the programme was supported by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Funds (UNICEF).

The childhood development programme offers interventions that combine nutrition, protection and stimulation, and it supports parents, caregivers and communities to help vulnerable children to get a fair start in life.

Briefing MAA councillors recently, Mr Modiegi said the programme was initiated by the Department of Social and Community Development in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

He said the ECD framework had been drawn and that the North West District leadership had been enlightened about the project.

He, however, said the Department of Social and Community Development was yet to facilitate mobilisation and introduction of the play groups to relevant stakeholders.

Mr Modiegi also briefed councillors about the introduction of a community based monitoring scorecard aimed at monitoring service delivery and the implementation of programmes and projects.

He said the initiative was a welcome development which would allow the community to hold service providers accountable since it would  allow communities to rate government services.

“The process uses the community as its unit of analysis for monitoring at the local level,” he explained.

He said consultations on the scorecard had taken place in the sub district. ENDS
