ShorobeKhwai roads headache for district leadership
14 Jun 2017
Maun Administration Authority (MAA) councillors have called on the local authority to prioritise the Shorobe/Mababe road.
The councillors were commenting on the sub council chairperson’s remarks, Mr Mmoedi Modiegi who said the Shorobe road was earmarked for dry grading and spot improvement.
Khwai/Mababe councillor, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho said the road was important as an intersection for Chobe and Ngamiland districts which contributed ‘immensely’ to the tourism industry.
Mr Ntsogotho pointed out that the Khwai/Mababe road was in a bad state and a cause of many fatal road accidentsin the area.
He therefore said the local authority should act upon it without much delay as it had been at adjudication stage for long.
Matlapana councillor, Mr Bathoni Poloko said the council should move away from recommending gravel roads, since the gravel easily washed away while it costed millions which could have bee used to construct permanent roads.
Somelo/Makakung councillor, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee said the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) only focused on Kgotlas and school projects in the MAA neglecting the area of roads.
He therefore said MAA should consider roads projects under ESP to address the poor roads in the MAA if there was to be another uptake of the programme.
The chairperson, in his remarks also said that the Tsau/Kareng road had been allocated P3 million for further maintenance. ENDS
