Mookane residents consulted over Bogosi issue
13 Jun 2017
Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development wishes to respond to The Botswana Gazette article that appeared on June 7, 2017 edition under the headline ‘Mookane residents revolt against govt over appointed chief’.
A press release from the ministry states that contrary to reports that no procedure was followed in the installation of Mookane chief, Kgosi Isabella Borumolano Tshipana, the ministry wishes to inform the nation that extensive consultations, in accordance with the provisions of Bogosi Act 2008 were made prior to the recent installation of the heir apparent to Mookane chieftainship.
The release says reported threats of boycott of all government activities in the village will be rather unfortunate and regrettable as government attached great importance to the role of the kgotla and Kgosi in the overall development and governance of the village.
By the same token, the ministry wishes to appeal to the residents of Mookane to collectively support government and Bogosi jwa Mookane in their concerted efforts to promote development and cohesion in the village. ENDS
