Former President, Sir Ketumile Masire says government remains committed to the promotion of employees’ welfare and development.
Sir Ketumile said this at the Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) awards ceremony on June 8 that various performance enhancement programmes among them, Performance Management System (PMS), Performance Based Reward System (PBRS) bear testimony to this fact.
Awarding employees and recognising them for their hardwork was, according to former statesman, a great achievement on its own.
“These awards are mainly to reward the work of individuals who have contributed to enhance and improve the image of the public service,” he said.
He said this year’s theme; 'Celebrating, Leaving Noone Behind Through Effective and Efficient Service Delivery,' was a clarion call to public officers to be agents of change.
“Regardless of challenges we have in the public service, we still deliver to the expectations and that is why I am here with you today celebrating those who have enhanced the role, the prestige and visibility of public service despite the limited resources," Sir Ketumile said.
For his part, coordinator for Strategy Management and Reforms, Mr Wazha Tema said local government’s role in the development of communities remained key.
He said therefore it was imperative for KAA and other councils to follow certain principles that were applicable to performance management.
“Performance management systems is a government policy that monitors performance of employees to enhance productivity,” he said.
Further, Mr Tema stated that due to ever-changing demographics and electorate demand, councils needed to be innovative and move with the times to enhance productivity.
Senior assistance council secretary for KAA, Ms Thupayamodimo Oakile was happy that the authority had been holding the ceremony since 2010 without fail.
A total of 69 employees received awards in categories ranging from Best Tirelo Sechaba participant, Long Service to Best Overall Performers. ENDS
