Southern district councilors on Monday retained Messrs Alec Seametso and Thamiso Chabalala as chairperson and deputy respectively during a special council meeting at Tomela Council Chambers in Kanye.

Councilor Seametso of Botswana Democratic Party garnered 45 votes against Councilor Kabelo Lemme of Umbrella for Democratic Change who got 17 votes.

In a tussle for the position of vice chairperson, Councilor Chabalala of Mafhikana ward sailed through after beating Olebogeng Sethibe of Moshupa West. The duo got 45 and 18 votes respectively.

The four sub districts of Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA), Moshupa, Good Hope and Mabutsane also elected chairpersons, deputies as well as members for various committees in their respective sub councils.

In a thought provoking conquest for KAA, Councilor Thapelo Pelekekae beat former chairperson and fellow democrat, Councillor Tlhomamo Dibeela of Dilolwe ward to assume the reigns.

He will be deputised by Councillor Kennedy Otlaadisa of Bagami ward who edged out Eric Chelenyane of Gasegogwane ward at the polls.

Meanwhile, Councillor Sonny Phiri of Magotlhwane/Kgomokasitwa and Councilor Wakgotla Tsalaile of Moshupa North were voted Moshupa Sub-council chairperson and deputy respectively.

Good Hope Sub-council retained Councillor Mmaobene Molefe of Mokgomane/Metlojane ward as chairperson. She will be deputised by councillor Charles Modimoothebe of Metlobo/Magoriapitse.

In Mabutsane Sub, Councillor Kgopolo Ramosesane of Sese has been voted the chair while Councilor Ernest Pule of Mabutsane/Kanaku was elected vice chairman.

In his acceptance, Mr Seametso called on fellow councilors to work hard and leave behind foot prints in the socio-economic development of the electorate. ENDS
