Opportunities abound for all- councillor
21 May 2017
Councillor for Marapalalo Ward in Kanye, Mr Kabelo Lemme has challenged Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in the Southern District to make use of every opportunity that comes their way.
Officiating at the OVC career fair for BGCSE leavers organised by Social and Community Development department in Kanye on Friday, he said whenever an opportunity arose, they should see to it that they took full advantage of it to better their lives.
Mr Lemme noted that having a positive approach towards life was instrumental as it motivated one to work hard and reap the benefits at a later stage.
He said even though one may face challenges or have a low self-esteem, they needed to introspect so that at the end of the day, they could make informed decisions.
For her part, chief social and community development officer, Ms Kehumile Mogobe said the objectives of the day included among others, disseminating information to OVC BGCSE leavers on courses offered by different institutions, to prepare them for tertiary life as well as assisting them to make informed decisions.
She further said the fair also addressed the burden and cost of travelling to Gaborone where the institutions were mostly located.
She therefore challenged the leavers to make use of this opportunity and to seriously consider all advice given to them.
One of the institutions representatives, Mr Chris Modikwa thanked the Southern District Council for their support and giving them a platform to market their institutions.
He said they were committed to advising the leavers and availing to them courses that could build a future for them.
One of the former top achievers who obtained 42 points last year, Ms Bantle Piet cited hard work, commitment and family support as key towards her success. Piet, who is also an orphan, challenged the current leavers not to lose focus despite the fast life they would encounter in Gaborone. ENDS
