Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines have donated school furniture worth over P240 000 to Ditsweletse Junior Secondary School in Letlhakane on Thursday.
The corporate affairs officer, Mr Godfrey Pitlagano said Debswana saw it fit to donate to the school since the request proposal made was about learning and teaching.
Mr Pitlagano said Debswana encouraged quality education and had to ensure that learners attended lessons in a conducive environment.
He noted that the school laboratories did not have tables and stools as well as the library which also did not have furniture. The school also received a photocopying machine.
The donation, he said, would give learners dignity and motivate them to improve their performance.
Councillor Boitshwarelo Mopedi appealed to Debswana to adopt the school.
He stated that a company that participated in the adopt a school programme was investing in the future of society, profession and the nation at large.
He also said students and teachers who benefited from the programme would understand voluntarism and its positive contributions.
Student Representative Council president, Mr Thabang Olebogeng appreciated the donation, saying their library did not have shelves and chairs.
He promised to preserve the furniture for future use. ENDS
