Ministry restores network

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has assured the public that they are doing all within their power to restore services following a threat to computer networks, resulting in a systems shutdown.

Following the threat and possibility of attack to Government Data Network, the ministry on May 14 shut down the sytems as well as  government Internet.

A press release from the ministry says, however that by tomorrow (May 20), the Internet services will be restored as well as all the personal computers.

By  end of business on May 16, all the systems except Passport and Border Control Systems (PBCS) were repaired to the required security level.

“All Birth and Death registration systems (BDRS) and National Identity system (NIS) client machines at Gaborone Omang offices of Head Quarters, Main Mall, BBS, Tlokweng and Borakaknelo are also complete,” the relase says.

The release says repairs of systems at all Immigration and Citizenship System (ICS) client machines at Gaborone Offices of Head Quarters, Loapi, and Universal House (Block 3) are complete and Ministry of National Immigration and

Gender Affairs offices have since been opened for provision of services to the public.

The Ministry will continue to provide more updates and the business community including the general public is encouraged to look out and protect its IT infrastructure. ENDS
