Kgosi Mosadi encourages participation on gender issues

Balete paramount chief and chairperson of the National Gender Commission, Kgosi Mosadi says both men and women are equally important in the development of this country.

In an interview, Kgosi Mosadi said the national gender policy was there to ensure that men and women were given equal opportunity and benefit equally from government programmes, whether it was education or job opportunities.

Therefore she said national gender commission amongst other things provided an oversight on gender mainstreaming in various sectors of the country’s economy.

Kgosi Mosadi, who is also a member of Ntlo ya Dikgosi by her position as Balete Kgosikgolo, explained that her role as the chairperson of the gender commission was to provide leadership and direction.

She continued to explain that already the gender commission had started its work since its inception in September 2016 adding that they had already conducted two stakeholders meetings.

Kgosi Mosadi said they had the obligation of explaining the structure of the commission to the community as well as its mandate.

She explained that plans were underway to reach out to the larger part of the community and to ensure public awareness as well as solicit support and community participation.

She said it was important for the public to be aware of the gender commission and embracing practising its teachings.

On the contrary, Kgosi Mosadi said the commission is not about a woman questioning or disrespecting a man’s position in society or at home and she explained that a man still remained the head of the family.

She explained that the commission would have achieved its mandate of gender quality in the country when all Batswana will be participants with full knowledge of  their rights.

She said if the public took part in rolling out the mandate of the commission, it would help in addressing issues of gender based violence. ENDS
