PAC to meet from May to June

The Public Accounts Committee sitting will be held from May 22 to June 16.

A press release from Parliament states that the meeting will be held at the Parliament Annex building auditorium and its hearings will be held in public.

It continues to say the purpose of the committee sitting is to examine and conduct the examinations of all ministries on the 55th PAC Work-in Progress Report and the responses to Accountant General’s report on 2016/17 accounts.

The release further says in terms of standing orders 105, the terms of reference of the committee are to examine, at the end of each financial year, the accounts and statements prepared and signed by the AG in accordance with the provisions of the Finance and Audit Act as well as examine the accounts prepared and signed in accordance with the provisions of the Finance and Audit Act by any officer (other than the AG) who is by virtue of any law responsible for the administration of any special fund, where the committee will be guided by the Report of the Auditor General.

It further more looks at examining the accounts of every Statutory Body which are required by any written law to be laid before the National Assembly and such other accounts laid before the assembly as may be referred to it by the assembly, and report the result of such examinations to the assembly.

The release also says the basis of examination is to ensure compliance to the Public Audit Act and Public Finance Act,other Statutory Instruments, Financial Instructions and Procedures ,and any other applicable laws and regulations. ENDS
