Council assures Ngurungu support

15 May 2017

The newly elected Maun Administration Authority leadership has assured the struggling Sankoyo Bush Bucks of their support in their battle to protect their status in the elite league.
They said there was need for all stakeholders to rally behind the team, as it was the only team from Ngamiland in the premier league, and that it brought joy and business to the community.
The leadership made the remarks during a courtesy call on them by the team management and players. The team’s management requested the leadership to motivate the players whose morale was said to be low because of challenges faced by the club.

Most of the councillors who graced the meeting said they were aware of the challenges faced by the team such as financial constraints, and advised the club management to organise fund raising activities such as dinners.
They expressed frustration that the club was failing to secure a sponsor, and yet it was from a tourist area. They expressed hope that the business community would come to their senses and see how best they could support the team.
Cllr Luke Motlaleselelo urged the tourism sector in the region to rally behind the team as they made a lot of profits especially during Ngurungu home games.

The council chairperson, Moedi Modiegi assured the club that going forward, they would work hand in hand with them as they want to see the team representing the region in the big boys league.“I promise to attend your training for the remaining encounters, and I would accompany you to your encounter with Nico United in Selebi Phikwe to show you how we really value and appreciate the team,” he added.
Giving a word of encouragement to players, Modiegi urged them to be patient and turn their challenges into opportunities in order for them to become strong.
He noted that well established and sponsored teams also had challenges, but that they remained strong and doing well in terms of performance.

He said if the boys could lose focus and relegate, that would bring boredom to the tourism capital, adding that there was vibe because Ngurungu had attracted a lot of attention.
The vice chairperson, Vepaune Moreti encouraged the players to revive the spirit of teamwork, noting that in every organisation, teamwork rewards better at the end of the day.
He advised them to listen to their coach and management in order to become successful in what they were doing. He also preached discipline amongst players in order to attract sponsors.
Moreti also advised the players to behave like professionals because most people view them as heros and stars in the football fraternity and thus inspiring youngsters.

Cllr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho urged management and the players not to despair, adding that going forward all shall be well, adding that their partnership with the council would produce positive results.
Earlier on, the club chairman, Itumeleng Kelebetseng informed the leadership that the players morale was low because they stayed months without salaries hence they requested the meeting so that the leadership could motivate them.
He said the club operates with a negative balance, adding that even to honour away games was a struggle for the team.
Kelebetseng said for the remaining away games, they needed P75 000, and that they were aiming to win them all in order to survive relegation. ENDS
