Kenosi Fastest premier league goal record holder

Mahalapye United Hotspurs striker Tebogo Kenosi is the record holder of the fastest goal scored in the premier league era.
The goal was scored 12 seconds into United Hotspurs’ BTC premiership league game against army side BDF X1 played at Molepolole Sports Complex on 16 October, which they lost 3-1.
The striker is on a season-long loan from Debswana First Division South Gabane based outfit Uniao Flamengo Santos.
In an interview recently on how he feels on being the record holder, Kenosi revealed that it was a great honour to be the holder of such a record, but unfortunate that he did not get to celebrate it in style.
“I learnt about the fastest ever goal record in premier league era at the end of our BDF X1 game, unluckily I did not have enough time to celebrate it as I got injured immediately after scoring as I was in great agony after dislocating my elbow,” said the 26-year-old.
“Before that game though, I had a feeling that something great was going to happen that day. I was certain that I was going to score and not only did I score but I set a record as well,” added the Pitshane-born.
Describing the goal, the former BMC and Mogoditshane Fighters striker said he noticed that their opponents’ defence was relaxed, with their minds still not settled in the game and they pounced on that opportunity.
“We were the first team to kick the game off and I passed the ball to my teammate who, without wasting any time, looped the ball back in my path while I was making a run towards the goals and I calmly slotted past the advancing BDF X1 goalie only after just 12 seconds,” recalled Kenosi.
He added that their opponents BDF XI did not even touch the ball from kick off until they took it from the back of the net.
Quizzed on where and when he developed interest in football, Kenosi said his interest in football dates as far back as his primary school going days in Pitshane and was mentored by his school football team coach whom he described as the only person who made him what he now was.
He said he took playing football serious back in 2005 after being scouted playing in the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) games and eventually called up to the national under 17 camp by former Zebras coach Jelusic Veselin.
He has since gone on to play for Fighters in 2010, the now defunct BMC in 2011 and crossed the floor to Santos the following year.
He said he set himself a target of being among the top goal scorers when the season ends but things did not go accordingly to plan as he spent the better part of the season on the side-lines due to injury.
On his take on the criticism channelled towards local strikers for not topping the goal scoring charts, Kenosi said foreigners were always more aggressive than locals and they take their job seriously.
“They do not rest on their laurels because they know that they rely solely on scoring goals, while us local strikers are just too relaxed, seldom shoot at goals and we also lack that indispensable hunger for goals,” remarked Kenosi.
Now that Amahot, as United Hotspurs are affectionately called, are already relegated to the second tier, Kenosi said he would be returning to his parent club Santos and take everything from there.
In his last words, he advised aspiring professional footballers to work hard and believe in themselves and also take advice from their coaches as they were the ones who know better. ENDS
