Okavango Sub-council on May 9 retained Mr Mbahahauka Kambimba as council chairperson.
Mr Kambimba and his newly elected vice chairperson, Mr Samson Mauano were unopposed in an election held during a special Sub-council meeting in Gumare.
Speaking after the election, Mr Kambimba thanked councillors for showing confidence in him and his deputy by voting them for the second time.
‘‘The fact that we were elected for a second time clearly shows that councillors have faith in us. I would like to give out my heartfelt thank you to my fellow colleagues for voting me. The two and a half years we have been in office have been nothing but eye opening,” he said.
Mr Kambimba noted that indeed there was still a lot that needed to be done, noting that every three months there was a report given to residents in the region hence encouraged councillors to do their job diligently.
Mr Kambimba said developments in various constituencies like Etsha and Jao Flats were expected.
Areas such as Habu and Xai-xai, he said had been connected with power but noted that internal roads in Nokaneng, Shakawe and Seronga were still far from satisfactory.
“We believe that we have run a good race. From here to 2019 there is still a lot to be achieved. Let us implement and come up with ideas and suggestions to enhance what already exists. What we do here should reflect what the people see. Let us keep on working hard,” Mr Kambimba said.
In order to achieve growth and prosperity in Okavango, Mr Kambimba said the welfare of the people should be their prime priority.
The newly elected vice sub chairperson, Mr Mauano appealed to councillors for advice to enable them to reach their goals. ENDS
