Phronesis International College opens in Ramotswa

South East District chief education officer, Ms Rosalind Serumola says professional counselling is a field that is not yet fully developed in Botswana.
Ms Serumola said during the opening of Phronesis International College in Ramotswa recently that the initiative was highly embraced.
She said the services of Phronesis International College were aimed at reaching out to the gaps and needs of the community and the country at large, which are tertiary education, counselling services and supervision, short courses, research and consultancy work and community partnership as well as networking.
Ms Serumola said the college offered Botswana Qualification Authority accredited certificate in counselling programmes, adding that diploma and degree courses were soon to be introduced.
In addition, the founder of the Phronesis International College, Dr Thelma Majela said she had found it necessary to start an institution that focused on counselling, adding that there were many issues affecting the society that needed professional counsellors.
Dr Majela said the institute had been credited by Botswana Qualification Authority and pledged to offer accredited courses.
She however said there was need to promote counselling as a profession and encouraged everyone in the society, including dikgosi to enrol for counselling courses, adding that dikgosi were facing many cases that needed counselling. ENDS
