GCC recognises rewards excellence

Gaborone City Council (GCC) held its first ever excellence awards, which aims to celebrate both individual and collective efforts of the best performance.
Speaking during GCC excellence awards recently, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said the excellence awards  acknowledged those who had worked hard to make a difference in the lives of the community and demonstrated humility in the delivery of service.
“As a council in the city of the country, you are bound to face unique challenges but it is clear that you have truly demonstrated perseverance,” she said.  


Ms Tshireletso further urged the mayor and town clerk to continue supporting their staff and hold them in high regard because any gesture, which seeks to recognise and appreciate performance, was key to sustaining good attitude.
She further encourged awards recipients to put more effort towards their service adding that it was also a call for everyone to introspect and establish areas of improvement for better results.
She  commended the leadership of GCC for having seen it fit to host such an important event. For his part, GCC town clerk, Mr Mpho Mathe said it was the first excellence award at the city council.
“I am exceptionally proud of our officers who have excelled in their fields,” he said.


Mr Mathe added that the amount of work that the GCC staff put in, would be the measure of the success of the council in the future.
“I urge all of you to work hard and I congratulate all those have performed well and I want to stress that you achieved this through collaborative work,” he addded.
There were different categories of awards ranging from long service and good conduct awards to employee of the year award.


Mr Mothusi Mothusi and Ms Sarah Moewagaabuse were awarded a medal for long service and good conduct having spent 39 years in service.
Mr Joseph Monageng was awarded a medal for having been in the service for 40 years with no disciplinary procedures, while employee of the year was awarded to Ms Merapelo Kesegofetse who is a social worker. The awards were held under a theme, Commitment to Excellence, Becoming Change Agents. ENDS
