09 May 2017
It takes a community to raise a child.
Ministry of Basic Education performance improvement coordinator, Mr Gaobotse Mokomane said at the exhibition to take the sub-region to the people that children up-bringing was an essential role to play in the growth and development of its young people.
‘If schools are going to build support for ongoing success they need advocates for improved programme outcomes outside their immediate environments,’ he added.
He noted that education was an asset to the individual and a core value to the democratic society and therefore was everybody’s interest to ensure that all children receive quality education.
He also said that it was important for policy makers and educators to consult with stakeholders to seek quality assurance.
He suggested that external stakeholders should be highly motivated to become powerful drivers to help achieve and sustain positive change in schools.
Mr Mokomane urged parents and teachers to hold hands as it has been proven that stronger parents and community partnership fostered higher educational expectations and more motivated students at both elementary and secondary level, irrespective of parent’s education or family income or background.
Principal education officer, Mr Cosmos Chabata emphasised that Ministry of Basic Education had a vision of producing an educated and globally competitive human resource and through quality teaching and learning that can be built.
He commended teachers who work tirelessly and stakeholders who support schools in communities they operate in.
The director - regional operations, Mr Sonny Mooketsi commended Selebi Phikwe region for the good performance on examination results as the region always comes tops.
He said Selebi Phikwe had a strategy of parents and teachers working together to support the dreams and aspirations of students of beating the national target of 75 per cent pass in primary school leaving examination. ENDS
