Magistrate court opens in Shakawe

09 May 2017

Shakawe tribal authority has welcomed efforts by the department of Administration of Justice to open a magistrate court in Shakawe.
This office situated behind Choppies Supermarket opened doors this year and it would service Shakawe and the surrounding villages.

In an interview, senior chief representative, Kgosi Mboma Diziro said the opening of the office was a welcome development saying  residents travelled long distances as far as Gumare and Maun to access services.
The office will therefore  reduce travel costs . He said they were overwhelmed by cases at the kgotla hence the delay and now “we would be able to refer some to the magistrate court and dealt with on time”.
Deputy Kgosi Mutemo Mbambo also thanked government for establishing an office in their village .
“Indeed we will be relieved as the court would conduct some cases,” he added.

He said it would reduce distance travelled by suspects noting that some were challenged to transport themselves to Gumare and Maun to honour their cases.
He said as such, they ended up pleading guilty to offences they did not commit due to lack of resources. He also noted that the government was spending a lot of money to transport witnesses.
On other issues, the leadership expressed gratitude to the government for a line up of on going developments in their village. Currently, he said the construction of the hospital is expected to start June/July this year while the Mohembo Bridge  construction is also expected to commence soon. ENDS
